Upcoming labs

The next few weeks are going to be kicking with the amount of cooking students will be doing in class. This week we are making Chicken Stir Fry, next week is fruit taste testing, pies, and the Thanksgiving lab. B day is on Thursday and A day is on Friday. Please do not forget to bring your stuff! Sign up sheets will be posted tomorrow and Friday this week.

The ice cream was great! I loved seeing everyone using those muscles to make their own ice cream. :) The vegetable taste testing lab actually went off really well. I think everyone was pretty great about tasting the vegetables! You guys are GREAT!! I have to say that amazingly enough 4B was actually the greatest about doing this lab...Thanks! :)

Chicken stir fry is only second (and that is a very close second) to the pizza lab. It tastes great and is fairly simple if you get already deboned chicken breasts. I can't wait to see the blogs on that one!

Iron Chef West Mesquite!!

This is short and sweet. The winner of the day for B classes was..........drum roll please...... Station 3 from 4B. Yes, that is right. sigh. That group worked so well together. You almost lost because of the bragging about how great your cookies were. I decided to give it to you anyway because your cookies ROCKED!! I am still undecided on A day. I will let you know tomorrow. The next cooking lab is Thursday and Friday of next week. Taco Soup all the way!!!

Let them eat cake!

I love cake. No, you do not understand...I REALLY LOVE CAKE! I love cake almost as much as I love pizza. I learned how to decorate cakes just so I would not feel guilty about eating so much cake. I mean, I couldn't just let all of that extra cake go to waste...could I? Of course not!!! That is why my newest discovery is so very brilliant! What is IT? IT is an individual serving size of cake made in less than 2 minutes! YES! (and it will not cost you $2 for one either)

This is what you will need: 1 half pint jar(?-how many cups are in a pint? think about how big that is), 2 tablespoons from a box of cake mix, 1 tablespoon of water, microwave, icing if you want it

Directions

Put the 2 tablespoons of cake mix and the tablespoon of water in the jar and stir until mixed. Put jar in the microwave for 50 seconds (you might want to watch the time. It was 50 seconds in my microwave. Which would be just dandy, but my microwave was made in 1980 so it might be a bit off). Take out of microwave with an oven mitt (it will be hot-speaking from experience here!!) Put toppings on top. Then enjoy!

These are my favorites:
chocolate cake with caramel pieces and pecans on top
yellow cake with chocolate icing
chocolate cake with marshmallow cream on top and chocolate drizzle
red velvet with cream cheese icing

Pizza and weekend plans

Hi everyone!

I am new to this blogging thing...let's see how it goes.

PIZZA!!! I am a pizza fanatic...ok, let me rephrase that. Pizza is one of the many foods I am a fanatic about, but today it is the food of choice.

I have been trying for the past few months to perfect a pan pizza recipe. By george I think i have found it!! Well...not quite IT...but I am close darn-it! I want to try it in my Tech class during the "culinary" section. I am not sure it will work, but we will see!

Food and Nutrition: 1A did really well on their cookies friday! How well will 4B do on theirs? We will find out Monday! Dont forget that 1A makes the real cookies on Thursday and 4B makes theirs on Friday!! We will find out who paid attention and who did not!

Food Technology: Smoothies are complete! The general response about our smoothies/frapps was pretty good. Next week we will not have any cooking! Disappointed...i know...but that is how it is! I am sure all of us are just counting the days until the second six weeks! lol!

Question of the day:
Nutrition: When was the first chocolate chip cookie made and by whom?
Tech: What is the difference between ice cream and gelato?

Each group that brings me the answer (in WRITING!!) will get a star on the board.

Cheers!!
Ms. Harris
